Why Whiskey-Aged Beef?

You Won't Be Disappointed!

April 19, 2018

We recently posted a video on our social channels showing the very beginning of our whiskey-aging process. If you love beef, this is the stuff of fantasies – smooth, local whiskey (or whisky, depending on where you’re from) from 40 Creek Distillery being slow-poured over our incredible, farm-raised beef. It’s a beautiful sight!

We’ve talked about our whiskey-aged beef once before, in this blog post, but we’re back at it again with good reason. The Combine restaurant in Simcoe will be serving VG Meats whiskey-aged beef on their menu for a limited time next month. We can’t wait to see what they do with it – and in the meantime, we’d like to tell you a bit more about why we love this product as much as we do.

Flavour and tenderness you’ll love

Whiskey-aged beef is very rich and has a smooth, subtle whiskey flavour that hits just the right note. It’s got amazing depth in terms of beef flavour, which is enhanced by both the whiskey notes and the aging process. It’s sweet, it’s funky, and it’s delicious. This is not an “everyday” steak that you cook on a whim – we’re talking about a special occasion product.

Some food critics have compared the scent of whiskey-aged beef to a fine cheese in that it’s got a funkiness to it. Many note the sweetness, which is a result of the whiskey, and some have even compared it to game in flavour (though it’s much more tender). If you’re into aged beef and want to cook it yourself, the VG Meats team can customize your order. We can determine the appropriate length of time to age your meat according to your tastes, select the right cut of beef and even play around with different types of whiskey, such as the Barrel Select, Confederation Oak or Copper Pot Reserve.

When cooked well, you’re going to get a melt-in-your-mouth piece of beef that tastes unlike anything you can get at the grocery store. For a foodie or a meat lover, it’s truly something spectacular. Go ahead and order yours from our Simcoe or Stoney Creek locations, or just head to The Combine this May and let them do the work for you!

The perfect meal

Just talking about our 60 day whiskey-aged beef is enough to make our mouths water. In our humble opinions, the perfect home-cooked meal may be a cut of aged beef with a VG Meats double-baked potato and some fresh, local asparagus. Even better? A meal starring our whiskey-aged beef that’s been prepared by the talented chefs at The Combine. Call them today to make your reservation – you won’t be disappointed!

Keep an eye on our blog, Twitter and Facebook pages for upcoming posts about the VG Meats whiskey-aging process, why we chose 40 Creek, and an update on how they’re preparing our whiskey-aged beef at The Combine.
