We Bring the Farm to You

Farm to City

April 20, 2017

If you live in a rural area, you may be used to buying your meat straight from the farm – it’s only natural, and access to fresh, high quality local meat is one of the benefits of living in the country. Like buying wild blueberries or fresh corn from the Farmer’s Market in the summer, shopping local is something that benefits the consumer as well as the local economy. You can’t go wrong with delicious food from your own backyard!

But what if you live in the city? Our products are available at Longos – a partnership we’re very pleased with and proud of. That said, we understand that some customers live outside of the Longos store area, want to order a large quantity of meat, or prefer the convenience of delivery. For those customers, we offer our Farm to City program. Put simply, it’s a delivery service that brings the farm to you. As VG brother Cory puts it, “The Farm to City program allows consumers to participate in a local food economy…A lot of people want to know where their food is coming from, and it’s our goal to connect Ontario farmers to local consumers.”

Started in early 2016, our Farm to City program has about ten drop sites in Ontario at present (you can find a full list here). We travel as far as Ajax to the East, and Stratford to the west (plus, everywhere in between). Customers can order online 24 hours a day, choosing the closest delivery spot to their home. Or, if they order a large quantity of meat, they can choose direct home delivery. It’s simple, convenient, and brings high quality local meat right to the city. It also allows consumers to avoid some of the expensive mark-up costs associated with shopping in a bricks-and-mortar store – a savings that that no one ever complains about!

Farm to City allows VG Meats to have a direct connection with our consumers – even those who can’t make it out to the farm or the retail store. It allows people across the province to buy directly from VG Meats without having to travel as far as the farm itself. As Cory puts it in this video about the Farm to City program, “What we’d like to do is expand our reach and make more connections between Ontario farmers and consumers – consumers who really want to make a difference in how they purchase, and make a difference for the economy and supporting farms.”

Some farms go the wholesaler route to streamline big sale operations and avoid time-consuming customer interaction. VG Meats takes a completely different approach because we value our customer interactions and the relationship between our farm and the community. We care about quality, producing good food for our community, and bringing local meat to as many parts of Ontario as we can. Instead of avoiding customer interaction, we encourage these connections – they’re a part of our philosophy and approach to business.

You can order anything from our product catalogue through out Farm to Table program, but some of our most popular items are burgers, chicken breasts and our famous steaks. We currently offer deliveries on scheduled dates throughout the month (the dates are always kept updated in the calendar) and are looking to grow the program in terms of both drop sites and frequency of deliveries. Based on the current response, it looks like we’re well on our way!

If you’re interested in learning more or making an order, check our our Farm to City page or contact us. We’d be happy to hear from you, and hope to see you at a drop site soon!
