VG Meats at the 2018 Restaurants Canada Show
Innovation Unleashed

It’s been an exciting week for VG Meats! While it’s business as usual in Simcoe and at our Stoney Creek retail store, several VG team members are in Toronto taking part in the 2018 Restaurants Canada Show. This year’s theme is innovation unleashed, and we’ve had a great time connecting with local restaurants, food producers and chefs. It’s incredible how much food and culinary talent has come out of Canada in recent years, and we are more than pleased to be a part of it.
A celebration of Ontario food
There have been a lot of highlights so far, but one of our favourites was seeing Chef Corey Duncan from Urban Pantry perform a cooking demo with VG Meats beef. Using short ribs, Chef Corey did a pulled pork-style pulled beef that was tender, saucy and flavourful. Watching (and smelling) this delicious demo, you could literally see audience members drooling. And who can blame them?! It was truly the best pulled beef we’ve ever seen – any restaurant would be lucky to have it on the menu. If you want to try this at home, just ask our butchers which cuts work best – we’ll lead you in the right direction.
It was also great to visit with Chef Danny of Jacob’s Steakhouse in Toronto. We’ve been supplying Jacob’s with VG Meats beef for several years now, getting Chef Danny the cuts just like he wants them. If you haven’t been to Jacob’s yet, you should go – it’s an exceptional dining experience (and the perfect place to impress a date). We recommend ordering anything Van Groningen, from the striploin to the ribeye!
We also spent some time with the good guys of Farmr – an amazing eatery in the St. Lawrence Market area. They love local, seasonal food as much as we do and make incredible meals from scratch. If you’re downtown, Farmr is another must-try. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Putting local food on the map
We’ve been to the RC Show show many times, and can confidently say that the Ontario section seems to be getting better and better each year. It’s growing and thriving, thanks largely to the support of local communities and consumers. When you buy VG Meats or eat a meal at a local farm-to-table restaurant in Ontario, you support local food, families and businesses. It truly helps – and, it’s some of the best food you’ll ever have in your life. Thanks to all our customers and to the great people at the RC Show for a fantastic week!
