It’s not often you get the opportunity to sit face-to-face with a Great Horned Owl – but it happened here the other day, and it was pretty amazing.
On the VG family farm, we get to see some amazing things – coyotes leaping through the field, deer and rabbits out in the pasture, and nocturnal visitors like skunks, possums and raccoons. Nature is awesome, and we never tire of seeing these animals in their natural habitat.
When something was bothering our chickens last week, we knew we had to take action – but there was no need for us to cause the intruder any harm. We want to protect our chickens, but not at the expense of another animal’s life. So we set a humane trap overnight and waited to catch the culprit – probably a skunk or a possum, we thought. Imagine our shock and amazement when we found this incredible owl waiting for us in the morning – a lot more majestic than a skunk!
Cory and Heidi were so fortunate to experience this beautiful owl up close – it was a truly awesome sight. We hope you enjoy the video below – a great up close view of our new friend before he took flight.
